What is Curvo Studio?

Curvo Studio is a free app that runs in your web browser and lets you experiment with interactive 3D simulators of electronic and electrical components, such as motors, diodes, LEDs, MOSFETs, resistors and transformers. There is nothing to install, and no account is needed to use the simulators.

What Curvo Studio does

Curvo Studio turns textbook components into things you can adjust and watch. You open a component, change real parameters such as voltage, frequency or load, and the 3D model, the live readings and the characteristic curves all update together.

The idea is to sit between a static figure in a textbook and a full laboratory. You can push a diode into breakdown or overload a motor and nothing breaks, so it is safe to try the cases a real bench would not allow.

Each simulator uses realistic rated values, and the symbols follow IEC 60617, so what you practise transfers to datasheets and to real equipment.

The simulators

Curvo Studio currently has 12 simulators, grouped into four categories: electrical machines, semiconductors, magnetics and passive components.

  • Electrical machines: three-phase induction motor, brushed DC motor, brushless DC (BLDC) motor, permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), stepper motor and servo motor.
  • Semiconductors: PN junction diode, Zener diode, LED and N-channel enhancement MOSFET.
  • Magnetics: single-phase transformer.
  • Passive components: resistor, including the colour code.

Each one opens a full workspace with parameters, a 3D scene, live readings and curves. Many offer presets, such as the 1N4148 and 1N4001 diodes or standard motor nameplates.

Who it is for

Curvo Studio is aimed at three groups.

  • Students preparing for exams and lab sessions, who want to see how a quantity changes when another one does.
  • Teachers who need a live demonstration tool that works on any device with a browser.
  • Hobbyists and curious people who want to understand what happens inside a motor, a diode or a transformer.

The interface is available in six languages: English, Turkish, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German and Italian.

Platforms and cost

Curvo Studio is free, and it has no paywall. It runs in any modern web browser at curvostudio.com, and there are also iOS and Android apps built from the same code.

The web version needs no installation. You open a simulator and start changing parameters.

What an account is for

An account is optional and is only needed to save your work. You can sign in with Google or with an email address.

With an account you can save a simulation as a project in the cloud, with a title and notes, and open, update, duplicate or delete it later. Saved projects are tied to your account, and each account can hold up to 50 of them.

Separately, you can create a lab report from a simulator. The report is a print-ready page that you can save as a PDF through your browser's print dialog, and the readings can also be downloaded as a CSV file for a spreadsheet. In the iOS and Android apps, exported files are handed to the system share sheet.

What Curvo Studio is not

Curvo Studio is a learning tool. The models are deliberately simplified so that cause and effect stay visible, and they are not a substitute for professional engineering design, verification or safety calculations. They are also not circuit simulators in the SPICE sense. The guide on how the simulations work lists the equations behind each simulator and their limits.

If you are starting out, the guides on reading a diode I–V curve, choosing an LED series resistor, designing a Zener regulator and understanding induction motor slip each pair a short explanation with a simulator you can open and use to check the numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Is Curvo Studio free?
Yes. Curvo Studio is free to use, with no paywall, and the simulators need no installation or account.
Do I need an account to use Curvo Studio?
No. An account is optional and is only needed to save projects to the cloud. You can sign in with Google or with an email address.
Does Curvo Studio work on phones and tablets?
Yes. It runs in a mobile browser, and there are iOS and Android apps as well.
Which components can I simulate?
There are 12 simulators: three-phase induction, brushed DC, BLDC, PMSM, stepper and servo motors, plus a PN diode, Zener diode, LED, N-channel MOSFET, single-phase transformer and resistor.
Is Curvo Studio the same as SPICE?
No. Curvo Studio uses simplified lesson models of single components, which are meant for building intuition. It does not solve whole circuits the way SPICE does.
